   I am currently employed at the architectural firm of Michael Hong Architects (MHA) as an architectural designer. As a graphic designer I am specialising in the fields of corporate identity (logo) design, print design, web design, and branding with the majority of my time spent designing and implementing marketing promotions for small businesses such as flyers, logos, websites, brochures, letterhead, business cards and more. I am 24 years old and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Design. I recently moved to Los Angeles, CA to find more experience in the architectural field and to see what life has to offer me outside of the Denver/Boulder area. I plan to attend graduate school for a Masters in Architecture in the near future. My life is design, I love it and I surround myself in it every day. I am: 1. Enthusiastic (I want to learn) 2. Skeptical (I think critically) 3. Focused (I have the right attitude) My parents are first generation Vietnamese-American who are refugees after the Vietnam War and moved here 5 years before I was born in Denver, CO. Therefore, I love to travel and currently have been back to Vietnam to learn more about my heritage 3 times. When I’m not looking at a computer screen you will find me on the beach, travelling, or listening to music - maybe even all at once. THE BUSINESS Although, I've had about 10 years of experience in the multimedia and graphic design industry, it is not my long-term goal but my hobby. This way, I get to choose the jobs I want to do which pushes my boundries and force me to learn something new each time. I like very unique designs and I won't send out a job unless it's up to my own standards. Graphic design is a very competitive market, so I try to be on the cutting edge of techniques and programs on a day to day basis. I specialise in areas such as logo design, corporate identity design, branding, web design, print design (ie. letterhead, business cards, posters, CD covers, book covers, etc.) and also dwell into many other areas such as photography and art.  2009 - Started to work with video editing and launched AlexPhi.com 2008 - Had my first published artwork in Hyphen Magazine and Asian Avenue Magazine 2007 - Moved to Los Angeles, California to work for Michael Hong Architects 2007 - Graduated from CU-Boulder with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Design with an emphasis in architecture. 2006 - Experimented many 3D programs and studied 3D rendering 2005 - Began my first paid graphic design position on campus. 2004 - Started to gain local wide recognition for my graphic works and started to get a lot of freelanced jobs for student groups on campus. 2003 - Got my first paid freelance graphic design job with carwrap.com 2002 - Fell in love with architecture and graduated top 10% of my class to head to University of Colorado to study architecture. 1998 - Began studying design in high school and designing small pieces of art work for personal use and student groups. 1996 - I become aware of the internet and published my first website at age 13. 1984 - Born in Denver, Colorado  |
